For me, the  Way of Harmony begins with the practice of Qigong (Chi-kung), translated from the Chinese language as Energy Work. Qigong is often called, Chinese Yoga, with simple movements and focus on deep breathing that can be compared to its Indian counterpart.  As a practitioner of Way of Harmony Qigong I establish health, harmony, balance and positive energy within my self, and then work to create relationships and a community that reflects this internal energy of harmony and balance.

One of the best books I've read about "energy work" is Embrace Tiger, Return to Mountain: The Essence of Tai Ji by Al Huang. Tai Ji is considered a type of qigong and I would like to paraphrase and quote some of Huang's observations about his unique tai ji that I have found to be so similar to my practice of Way of Harmony Qigong:

--The concept of tai ji (Way of Harmony Qigong) only means a way of learning how to regain balance again. It is a way to come back to yourself from all the conflicts and confusions that we feel everyday in our lives. Tai ji (Way of Harmony Qigong) does not mean Oriental wisdom or something exotic. It is the wisdom of your own senses, your own body and mind together as one process. (P. 62)

--The essence of  tai ji (Way of Harmony Qigong) is to help me get acquainted with my own sense of potential growth, the creative process of just being me. Way of Harmony Qigong helps me to be me and let the sense of wonder and development and constant joy of changing happen. Way of Harmony Qigong is a discipline that you as a person, as a human being, can begin to dig into and practice and it will serve you. (P. 62)

--Important to all practices of Qigong or Energy Work (like Aikido, Judo, Karate, Kendo, Kung-fu, etc.) is creating a sense of balance and the feeling of knowing where you are and who you are. Tai ji (Way of Harmony Qigong) helps you find a moving center. It is a moving meditation; you move your center with you. (P.21)

Like Huang would say about his tai ji, I will not tell you that practice of Way of Harmony Qigong is the way, or the only way or the perfect way.  It is a way that I have found valuable and would like to share, with hopes that you might find some value for own "energy work" and community building efforts.

On this page I would like to share with you some of the documents I have written related to Qigong practice, the Way of Harmony Qigong and Community Building.
